Math:
Yesterday we did a test review, and today we did part one of the test. No homework.

Science:
Today was "Bridge Breaking" day. All groups completed the building requirements successfully. I will audit their financial records and compare their blueprints with the finished bridge and see how well they did in those departments.

Social Studies:
The "regional" test on the Countries of Europe will need to be completed by September 30th. This test requires them to correctly identify the countries one region at a time. It is done on Level 1 at:
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Europe/Europe_travel_G0_double2.html

The students will take the test each day between now and then, and the highest score they have by the 30th will be recorded in the gradebook.

The highest score for the whole continent of Europe, not just one region at a time, will be recorded by the end of the quarter.

Bible:
We have been practicing the skills of identifying lessons we can learn from a Bible passage about God and about ourselves. We are studying Matthew 24-28 right now.
A journal entry from yesterday and today will both be recorded in the gradebook. The journal entry needs to include a lesson from the passage about God, and a lesson about ourselves.

Writing Workshop:
Write three possible titles for your "action" story.
Make three new leads for your story. Write an attention grabbing first sentence and first paragraph by using each of the techniques we talked about in class:
1) Begin in the middle of a conversation.
2) Begin by describing action that is already happening.
3) Use a lot of 5 senses details and powerful adjectives to describe the opening scene.

This is due Monday for Advanced Bells and Tuesday for Beginning Bells.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

The lesson plans have arrived here in Wisconsin, but I did not get them before the office was closed for the day. My hopes and dreams of updating the blog are falling short. I will be able to give an update tomorrow.
Blessings!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

I'm sorry, I forgot to copy the lesson plan sheets I left for the class, so I do not have them to update the blog today. I will ask the school to fax them to me tomorrow so I can update the blog.

2. 32
3. 54

Show all your work. Only put one row of numbers per line of paper. Do not try to scrunch two rows of numbers onto one line, or write numbers messily across lines.

The students have begun work with their "Bridge Construction" companies on a toothpick bridge contest, where they will apply skills in collaboration with a team, problem-solving and physics principles to build a truss bridge to hold as much weight as possible.

Bible:
We practiced using the steps we have discussed this week of studying the Bible for personal devotions. Students received Bible credit for taking notes and participation.
The steps are:
1. Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak God's message for the day to you.
2. Read for pleasure, without measure.
3. Search for treasure.
4. Stop when you see it pop.
5. Pray and dig into the phrase/concept you stopped at.
6. Write down the phrase/concept that popped out to you, and the message God is giving you through that phrase/concept.
7. Write a note back to God in response to what He said to you through His word.

Next week we begin our Bible marking lesson on the "Great Controversy", and students need to have their Wide-Margin Bibles at school every day for class.

Have a great Labor Day weekend together!
